Monroe Made: Justin Moses
Justin Moses, 1999 Sequoyah High School Graduate
From the halls of Monroe County Schools to stages around the world, Justin Moses’s journey is a true testament to what it means to be Monroe Made. Now living in Nashville and working as a professional musician, Justin has built a remarkable career grounded in the strong educational foundation he received right here in Monroe County Schools.
Justin shared that his Monroe County education gave him “a solid foundation of knowledge” and that having teachers who truly cared made all the difference. He fondly remembers classes at Sequoyah High School with Mr. Gary Sharp, Mr. Jody White, and Mrs. Lou Gray—each leaving an impact that stayed with him long after graduation.
Justin’s accomplishments are nothing short of extraordinary. His album Fall Like Rain was nominated for 2021 Album of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association, also earning nominations for Instrumental Recording of the Year and Collaborative Recording of the Year. His career has taken him to all 50 states, more than 15 foreign countries, and iconic platforms such as the Tonight Show, Today Show, Conan, and the Grand Ole Opry. He has been named Resophonic Guitar Player of the Year six times by the IBMA and performed with legendary artists including Alison Krauss, Garth Brooks, Del McCoury, Emmylou Harris, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, Béla Fleck, and many more.
Justin also shared that one of his greatest joys is making music with his wife, the talented singer/songwriter and mandolin player Sierra Hull.
