Monroe Made: Emily Hill Ingram

For Emily Hill Ingram, a 2013 graduate of Sequoyah High School, Monroe County Schools provided far more than an education. It provided a foundation for the professional she is today.

Now serving as an Operations Manager for KARM Stores, Emily oversees six store locations across four counties as part of Knox Area Rescue Ministries’ mission-driven organization. Her journey from student-athlete in Monroe County to one of the youngest leaders in her organization is deeply rooted in the lessons and opportunities she experienced while growing up in Monroe County Schools.

“Growing up in Monroe County Schools didn’t just shape my education; it shaped who I am,” Emily shared. During her years at Sequoyah High School, Emily immersed herself in a wide range of activities. For nine years, she played soccer. “Whether we were winning or losing, I learned how to show up, work hard, and support the people around me,” she said. Emily also remembers the lasting influence of educators and coaches who invested in her during her time at Sequoyah High School, especially Coach Paul Burke. “Coach Paul Burke instilled resilience, respect, and work ethic,” she shared.

Emily also found meaningful opportunities through organizations such as FFA, Beta Club, Concert Choir, and Theatre. Each experience contributed to her growth in different ways and helped prepare her for future success.

For Emily, Monroe County Schools created an environment where students were encouraged to explore their interests and grow into their full potential. “What makes Monroe County Schools so meaningful to me is that it gave me a space to belong,” she said. “It wasn’t just about activities. It was about the people, the encouragement, and the opportunities that helped shape my character and my values.”

Those formative experiences continue to influence her leadership style and work ethic today. Emily credits Monroe County Schools with helping her develop the confidence to lead and connect with others wherever life takes her.

Since graduating, Emily has built an impressive career with KARM Stores. Today, she serves as one of the youngest Operations Directors in the organization’s history, stepping into the role before the age of 30.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have poured into me along the way, for my faith that continues to guide me, and for the support of my husband throughout this journey,” Emily said. Outside of work, Emily enjoys life on the farm with her husband of four years and their four basset hounds.

Through every chapter of her journey, Emily’s story reflects the impact of being Monroe Made.
