TEL is administered by the Tennessee State
Library and Archives, a division of the Tennessee Secretary of State's office.
Funds for TEL are provided in part by the Institute of Museum and Library
Services, a federal grant-making agency dedicated to creating and sustaining a
nation of learners by helping libraries and museums serve their communities.
Additional funds are provided by Tenn-Share member libraries throughout the

It is the philosophy of this library media center that all members of the school and community can become experts in accessing, evaluating and using information through a variety of new technologies and formats.

The mission of this library media program at SHS is to ensure that students, teachers, and community members are effective lifelong users of ideas and information. This will be accomplished by providing intellectual and physical instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas; and by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.

All materials removed from the library must be checked out by the proper procedure.
Overdue/Lost/Damaged/Books and Materials - Go To Top
Books and magazine overdue fines will be charged at 10 cents per day per item. Reference books and Vertical File materials overdue fines will be charged at 50 cents per day or portion thereof per item. The person who signed the card is responsible for paying all overdue fines or for paying for materials if they are lost or damaged. Charges for damaged or lost materials will be based on replacement cost plus a $2.00 processing fee. Bar codes are being placed on every book in the library. Students who remove or damage them will be charged a $1.00 replacement fee.
Library Passes - Go To Top
No student will be allowed to use the library without the proper pass. There must be only one student's name (complete) per pass. If your teacher expects you to return to the classroom before the bell rings you must leave the library 5 minutes before the bell and the librarian will indicate the time you left on your pass. The pass should be returned to your classroom teacher.
Computers - Go To Top
The computers in the library are for educational purposes only. Games, other than educational games, are not to be played. Students must sign in on the list by the computer. All posted policies and Acceptable Use of Internet policies must be followed. Students must have a rough draft before using the word processor. Computer generated encyclopedia articles are not to be copied in their entirety - only selected portions can be highlighted and printed. Absolutely no floppy disks can be put into the library computers.
