Sweetwater FFA Wins State Farm Business Contest

Sweetwater FFA won the State FFA Farm Business Contest at the State 82nd Annual State FFA Convention in Gatlinburg. The contest consisted of 26 schools across the state taking an individual exam regarding economics, finance, and accounting as well as 4 members completing a team activity that included futures markets, depreciation, and balance sheets. Team members included (L-R) Tsia Teegarden, Ross Houston, Matthew Young, and Jonathan Summitt. The team will compete in October at the National Contest in Indianapolis.

Joseph Fisher, Assistant Commissioner Tennessee Department of Education, recognized Monroe County Schools for Exemplary Response to Intervention Practices. The practices included collaborative efforts in implementing response to intervention, outstanding progress monitoring procedures, and outstanding Tier III services.

Vonore Elementary School Wins 2008-2009 Hidden Valley Grant

The "Love Your Veggies" program will provide fresh produce via the cafeteria vegetable bar and work with a certified health educator to help teachers incorporate nutrition education into the core academic program throughout the 2009-10 school year.
Grant awards were based on proposals that demonstrated need, innovation, greatest likelihood of sustainable impact on the students they are serving, and potential for community involvement.
